Friday (8/1) the Fireflies enjoyed a program about Honey Bees with Judy Spring and Charlie Augrom from the Genesee County Park. We learned so much and everyone had the opportunity to try on Beekeeping gear.

What’s the Buzz about?

The Friday (8/1) programs this week will feature BEES! The Preschool Busy Bee program at 10:30am is titled ‘Buzz to the Library’ join Mrs. Gillard and all her friends for stories, songs, fingerplays, craft and snack.

For the Frisky Firefly program on Friday for grades 1 and up at 2:30pm, titled ‘What’s the Buzz about Bees?’ will feature Judy Spring from Genesee County Park. Judy will talk about bees and beekeeping and kids will have the opportunity to make a craft.

The Frisky Firefly program on 7/25 – CroZoo visited! Do you know what this is?

Well, for all you Jan Brett fans, this is an albino Hedgehog named Snowbell.

Dragonflies, Busy Bees, Fireflies, Oh My!

What a BUSY week last week and an equally BUSY one under way already!

The Dragonflies met for a spinningly good time today and discussed the book Seven Spiders Spinning by Gregory Maguire. Nest week we’ll start reading Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins – not to be missed!

This Friday (7/25) our Busy Bees will meet at 10:00am and will be outside in the Literary Garden (weather permitting) and the Fireflies will meet @ 2:30pm for a program in the Children’s Room by CroZoo, the Around the World Safari, a fun for all ages program.

Bruce Weaver and friends entertained us Friday (7/11) afternoon. There was a lot of laughter and learning going on. He introduced many friends to us and even taught us the proper way to laugh.

The Busy Bees Preschool Story Time Summer Program met for the first time last Friday 7/11 @ 10:00am. They listened to stories and sang songs with Mrs. Gillard and finished up with a butterfly craft and buttterfly snack!

Dragonflies are Poets

The Dragonflies lunch bunch book group for grades 3-5, meets Tuesday afternoons @ 1:00pm. We eat our lunch and Miss Kelly supplies a drink and snack we also, listen as she reads a few chapters of a book to us and do fun activities and games.

Essay Contest

The 18th annual HELEN BUHL MEMORIAL AWARD will be awarded to a summer reader who is entering 4th, 5th or 6th grade.

Students join The Summer Reading Club and write a report on one of the books they have read. This must be submitted to the Richmond Memorial Library, no later than August 1st, 2008.

A panel of judges from the FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY will select the winning entry. The winner will receive a $50.00 cash prize and have his/her name inscribed on a plaque in the Children’s Room. Two honorable mentions will be awarded $25 each.
